Monday March 13, 2006. I was able to catch him while driving my Ferrari. I had to transcribe all of this in about twenty minutes so excuse me if it doesn't make any sense.
Thanks for your time.
You're welcome. You seem to have more of it than I do.
Tells us about how god like you are and your humble origins.
My origins are indeed humble. I come from a normal-ish family in the midwest. Somewhere along the lines I became interested in programming. I always wanted to make games, so I decided to take my extreme talents in that direction with the creation of PigShooter and Rainwalker. As you can see, my ability is like that of a god
First tell us about Pig Shooter, why shooting pigs at the Futurama ship?
The idea came about after discovering a great cartoon pig graphic on the web someplace. After that, I just used google image searches to find the first cool looking bits of art to use as subjects in what I was sure would become the greatest game of all time. Somehow I ended up with a space theme and found the futurama ship to be rather nice looking. Thus PigShooter was born.
Have you ever shot real pigs from a spaceship, like in space?
I did once. It ended up being rather messy when they explosively decompressed. I decided to tone the reality down a bit for the game. I think it worked out well.
How much money are you getting from the Futurama guys for your free advertising?
I'm afraid I am not at liberty to disclose those figures, but let's just say that without PigShooter, they'd probably just all be reruns.
How many man hours did it take to create the finished product?
I honestly can't remember. I was so deeply in the zone at the time that I believe time actually stood still. I have some pretty hardcore powers, if you'll remember.
How many people worked on it and what kind of budget did you have?
Teams? TEAMS? We don't need no stinkin' teams! This was a one-man show with a shoestring budget. It's true that it looks like your typical big-budget industry game, but PigShooter is a homegrown indie success.
So what the hell is wrong with "disgruntled fan"? What's his darn problem? Can I beat him up?
That's a good question. I wish I knew. I've had all the best armed muscle money can buy try to twist an answer out of him, but there's just nothing there. I suspect some people are simply too broken in the head to know why they say and do the things they say and do. You're welcome to try your own techniques.
Considering what a giant success it is, will there be a third version?
Did you ever considering adding a score keeper, like a number that just keeps track of how many ships destroyed?
That would violate some of the core design principals I employed in the creation of PigShooter. I was a staunch supporter of scoring, but then I did the research and you just can't argue with the scientific method.
Now on to Rainwalker.
Hey, you're the question asker. Not me.
You hate the rain?
Only if it is on my parade - if you catch my breeze.
Clouds are mean?
Some of them are. Haven't you ever looked up and seen those dark, gray ones? Those are the clouds that just wish they could come down and kick everyone's ass. That's why they rain on us, you know. It's because they're angry. The irony is that many people actually like the rain - and it helps our plants grow, too. That only makes them more upset. Sometimes they resort to lightening.
Have you considered a Spring mode where you get a combo of Rain and Snow?
I have. Rainwalker is early in its product life cycle. It's hard to estimate what may come down in the future.
That's awesome music where did you buy it?
All of that music is free creative commons music. No purchase necessary. Some assembly required.
I hear you're getting married, will that music be played at your wedding?
That's hard to say. The music is pretty intense. Some people in the general population can't handle that kind of power. It puts them to sleep.
Well I think it should.
Is this a trick question?
How many people worked on this and what was your budget?
As with PigShooter, the team was just me, myself, and I. So when you do the math on that, you'll realize it was just one person. The budget was more lavish than with PigShooter, however, as is obvious with there being not just one, but two whole seasons of play - not to mention the music and the number of drops. The numbers were right around $10 in total, I believe. I'd have to check with my accountant to see how much that pizza was that I ate while working on it.
Have you considered a game where the clouds shot pigs at the guys walking or maybe having to destroy the ships with rain? Sort of a combination of the two games?
Just so you know, any ideas submitted to me become my property.
What does the future hold for Spiffy Tech? What great games are coming up soon?
Well, I was thinking about a game that combines PigShooter and Rainwalker. It's a new idea, so I need to think about it some more.
Can I have a job at your place? I really don't do anything besides hang out at this message board all day.
Sure. Take whatever it is I'm paying you now and multiply it by 10. Each year I'll give you a 10% raise. You can be the official company evangelist.
Again, thanks for your time and thanks for the job offer. I could really use that extra 10%.
No problem. Thanks for playing.
